I never liked The Simpsons or Family Guy. Or Friends and Two and a half Men. It scares me sometimes to be remindet of how many people find that Kind of "humor" so funny. To me it's an Indikator of the decay of our society

Atypical on Netflix has FAR better representation of the realities of ASD than The Good Sturgeon.

I find the show unwatchable after season 3. They throw wave after wave of gorgeous women at Sheldon and he marries horse-face? The writers must've secretly hated him and his breakout success.

"Family guy" may seem too big to fail now, but Alexa Nickolas who is best known for playing the ditsy friend Nicole on "Zoey 101" & who took part in the docuseries "Quite On Set" & who also happens to be an advocate for survivors has spoken about her unpleasant experiences working with Seth MacFarlane as well as a producer on the show while voice acting for "Family Guy". I also once found a tweet by a woman making similar accusations against MacFarlane. Being in the #metoo movement as well as Mila Kunis's reputation going down the toilet, I think the series time still on air is limited at best.

frankly im tired of every show having to “represent” person with x issue. not because writers cant donit accurately or in an entertaining way, but because it seems like these shows get greenlit because its representing something rather than being something relatable to most people who will be watching. then when they people who may have asked for it or the group they are representing for sees it, they arent satisfied. i miss when the protagonist of a show was just a regular guy. now you can only have a protagonists if you can describe them as if you’re reading a twitter bio

Awards are meaningless. The people who run them are the same kind of people as journalists, people who are sort of smart but think they're highly intellectual, and are very smug about it. Most things that appeal to such people aren't worth watching.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is a Korean show that handles autism pretty well with the main character growing and learning throughout. It got a lot of critical acclaim too and worth a watch

Why don’t they age

Everyone under 30 has autism, ocd, depression, random food allergies and emotional problems.

As an autist, the biggest complaint I have is Hollywood portrays only the savant. People only want to see the Savant hero who over comes the odds to be a star for me pattern recognition and finance is my jam not nearly as entertaining as a character like rain man

My girlfriend is autistic and I had literally no idea until we were already serious. I fr hate these kind of shows that both try to normalize/misrepresent autism, or treat it like some crazy, “we are not the same” power - knock it off, shits corny.

They are coming to Miami now. I am disappointed to hear that the whole convention seems to be centered in getting in line to PAY for autographs and pictures of the cast....and the prices are not cheap! Rainn is charging 190 for an autograph and picture. Absurd!

House MD is the only show ill watch that has doctors

You basically nailed it right with this. If people are interested in a better depiction of autism I would suggest As We See It. Which aired on Amazon Prime. It got cancelled after one season because it wasn't a major franchise

Thank you for bringing up those two episodes! I binge-watched the first season one-week last summer with my mom, and the way they used his autism as a "lesson of the week" style format in a lot of those episodes felt very demeaning. As if his having autism somehow made the bigotry have logic, even if it were absurd like the poisoned woman being called a terrorist without real evidence. The transphobia episode pissed me off a lot if he had truly been memorizing modern medical textbooks since childhood he would have undoubtedly come across something mentioning transgender or intersex individuals, especially in genetics where you learn that there are more than XX and XY from intersex conditions and other sex-related conditions. The lesson of the week format really didn't seem to address when Shawn was in the right (or at least not the one at fault) in scenarios either, such as much of the emotional or social faux pas of the later parts of season one with him being disregarded or ignored completely by his mentor (the cancer plotline and the romantic plotlines). A lot of stuff wouldn't be his fault at times, but the other characters just got to blame his autism with their own interpersonal behavior rarely being questioned unless they were extreme (like the punch or a breakdown)

My brother and his roomate where watching this series one day and i thought it was hilarious that the camera zooms in everytime he makes connection or takes in a detail, but it happens almost everytime and i couldnt help but laugh like what is he was caught looking at some womens breasts andnit zoomed in like that! 😂😅

This is a very good point. Autism in hollywood kind of relates to how there needs to be more "bad" versions of these characters, same thing I think applies to homosexual characters

I always though House was more compassionate and kind than people thought. His terrible childhood and drug abuse affected Him. You got a lot of glimpses if you paid attention. I rewatch the series every couple of years. I do the same with Dexter.
